eSSL U10 — 860–960 MHz UHF RFID Card Reader (10 m Long-Range Gate)

10 in stock (can be backordered)

eSSL U10 860-960 MHz UHF RFID card reader for vehicle and asset tracking. 10-metre read range with RS485 and Wiegand output. Built for Indian port, logistics and yard deployments.

Description

A Visakhapatnam port operator wants long-range UHF readers at the truck-gate boom barrier to track containers — every truck entering the port yard carries a UHF tag on its windshield and a UHF tag on the container chassis, and the port management system has to log both at the gate without slowing the truck. The current short-range reader makes the driver dismount or roll down a window to swipe, which the dock supervisor measures as a 60-second hit per truck — across 300 daily movements that is five lost hours of throughput. A 10-metre UHF read range lets the gate reader authenticate the windshield tag and the container tag in one sweep as the truck rolls past at 10 km/h. The eSSL U10 is built for exactly this. A 10-metre long-range UHF RFID card reader with RS485 and Wiegand output, sized for vehicle and asset tracking at the port gate.

Why integrators specify the eSSL U10

The eSSL U10 is the long-range UHF RFID card reader integrators specify for port, container yard and logistics deployments where vehicle and asset tags both need authentication at the same gate. The 10-metre read range is the sweet spot for boom-barrier installations — long enough that the truck does not have to stop, short enough that the reader does not capture every tag in the next lane. RS485 and Wiegand output give the integrator a choice of integration path: RS485 for the port management system that wants raw EPC data, Wiegand for the access control panel that wants a credential validation flow. LED and buzzer feedback at the head; tamper detection at the access control system.

RFID technology & read range

The eSSL U10 operates on 860-960 MHz UHF — the global RAIN RFID frequency band used for vehicle access, container tracking and supply-chain logistics. Read range is up to 10 metres in clear-air port conditions, which is enough to catch a windshield tag well before the boom barrier stop line and to catch a container chassis tag on the same pass. UHF passive tags need no batteries, are weather-tolerant for monsoon and salt-air operation, and are cheap enough to issue a fresh tag for every container booked into the yard. Read performance drops in heavy rain or with adjacent metal walls, which the integrator addresses through mount-point placement at the site survey.

How it integrates with your access controller

The eSSL U10 RFID reader outputs RS485 and Wiegand — the right combination for industrial port deployments that may need both protocols on the same gate. RS485 carries raw EPC streams to the port management system in real time, where container tag and vehicle tag get cross-referenced against the booking database. Wiegand feeds the access control panel that drives the boom barrier physically. The card reader supports both outputs simultaneously, so the integrator does not have to choose between yard management visibility and access control system enforcement. eSSL, BioMax and third-party panels all accept the Wiegand stream; the port management system reads the RS485.

Daily operation

The eSSL U10 mounts on the gate post or boom-barrier housing with line-of-sight to the approaching truck lane. Power is 12V DC drawn from the gate-house power supply. LED and buzzer feedback at the head confirm successful tag reads; the access controller drives the boom motor. For a 24×7 port deployment the reader sits in a weather-tolerant outdoor mount and runs unattended, with the dock supervisor only seeing it through the port management system dashboard. UHF is sensitive to environment — adjacent steel containers, overhead cranes, parallel UHF readers — and the integrator’s site survey will determine final tilt, height and tag-orientation guidance for the fleet.

What integrators usually ask before ordering

Will it work with our existing access controller?
Yes — Wiegand output plugs into any standard access controller; RS485 feeds the port management or yard system in parallel.

What’s the read range, and does it work through wallets/lanyards?
Up to 10 metres for UHF passive tags. UHF is for vehicle, container and asset tags — not human card-tap.

Can it read multiple card types (EM + Mifare)?
No — the U10 is a UHF-only RFID card reader. For mixed EM + Mifare on the same door, use the eSSL SA40.

Is it IP-rated for outdoor mounting?
The U10 is built for outdoor gate mounting. Confirm the exact IP rating and any weather-hood requirements with the integrator at site survey, especially for monsoon and coastal salt-air installations.

Does it support encrypted cards?
UHF passive tags use plain EPC reading by default; encryption variants exist for specialised UHF deployments. The U10 card reader passes the EPC to the access control system or port management system for policy enforcement.
