eSSL K990 — 125 kHz EM RFID Card Reader (Flush-Mount Wall Box)

10 in stock (can be backordered)

eSSL K990 125 kHz EM RFID card reader for door access control. Flush-mount design fits a standard wall box, RS485 output, 5-10 cm read range. Built for Indian commercial deployments.

Description

A Patna NGO needs simple RFID readers at 3 field offices — Wiegand-compatible with the existing standalone controllers — and the field offices were built with standard 86 mm wall boxes already chased into the corridor wall for the previous telephone handset. The NGO admin does not want a reader that surface-mounts and creates a bulge above the wall-box rim; he wants a flush-mount reader that sits neatly inside the wall box and finishes flat against the wall. The card stock is the standard 125 kHz EM proximity card the regional staff carry. The access controllers at each field office are basic single-door panels. The eSSL K990 is built for exactly this. A flush-mount 125 kHz EM RFID card reader designed to sit inside a standard wall box for a clean, finished installation across the three field offices.

Why integrators specify the eSSL K990

The eSSL K990 is the flush-mount RFID card reader integrators specify when the building already has wall boxes at door positions and the project needs a clean finish — NGOs, training centres, government field offices, small clinics, restored heritage offices. The flush-mount housing sits inside a standard 86 mm wall box, with the read face level with the wall surface and a slim bezel finishing the edge. 125 kHz EM frequency reads the standard proximity card stock used in most field-office deployments. RS485 output supports daisy-chain wiring across multiple readers and panels — handy when the field office has multiple internal doors connected back to a single supervisor terminal. LED and buzzer feedback confirm reads; tamper detection flags forced-removal events.

RFID technology & read range

The eSSL K990 operates on 125 kHz EM frequency with a read range of 5-10 cm — the standard tap-and-go distance. EM 125 kHz is the most widely used credential stock in Indian field-office access control, with replacement cards available from every regional distributor. The 5-10 cm range works through standard ID lanyard sleeves. The flush-mount geometry keeps the antenna inside the wall box; read performance is consistent across the read face. The eSSL K990 card reader passes the card number to the access controller, which validates against the user database and drives the door strike.

How it integrates with your access controller

The eSSL K990 RFID reader outputs RS485 — the right interface for multi-reader daisy-chain installations and for installations where the access controller sits in a separate equipment cupboard from the reader heads. RS485 carries the card data over a single twisted pair across long runs (up to 1.2 km in clean conditions) which is exactly what a multi-room field-office layout needs. For Wiegand-only controllers, an RS485-to-Wiegand bridge or a sibling reader (e.g. eSSL JS-500E or KR500-E) is the easier path. The K990’s flush-mount installation pairs with any access control system that accepts RS485 reader input, which covers most modern multi-door access control panels.

Daily operation

The eSSL K990 sits inside a standard 86 mm wall box beside the door. Power is 12V DC drawn over the standard reader cable from the dry-side power supply. LED feedback confirms successful reads; buzzer gives an audible cue. The tamper alarm wires back to the controller for forced-removal events. For a 3-field-office NGO deployment the K990 needs essentially no daily maintenance — the flush surface wipes clean with a damp cloth — and the access control system on the supervisor’s terminal continues running without operator intervention. The flush-mount geometry resists casual tampering simply because there is nothing protruding from the wall to grab.

What integrators usually ask before ordering

Will it work with our existing access controller?
The K990 outputs RS485. Many modern access controllers accept RS485; for Wiegand-only panels, choose an alternative reader such as the eSSL JS-500E or use an RS485-Wiegand bridge.

What’s the read range, and does it work through wallets/lanyards?
5-10 cm. Standard lanyards and thin wallets pass through.

Can it read multiple card types (EM + Mifare)?
No — the K990 is 125 kHz EM only. For dual EM + Mifare, use the eSSL SA40.

Is it IP-rated for outdoor mounting?
The K990 is indoor / sheltered-corridor rated. For outdoor entries, choose the eSSL KR500-E (IP65).

Does it support encrypted cards?
EM 125 kHz does not implement card-side encryption. For encrypted credentials, use a Mifare RFID card reader.
