eSSL U12-I — 860–960 MHz UHF RFID Card Reader (10 m Vehicle Barrier)

10 in stock (can be backordered)

eSSL U12-I 860-960 MHz UHF RFID card reader for vehicle barrier and contractor-truck access. 10-metre read range with Wiegand and RS485 output. Built for Indian industrial and automotive deployments.

Description

A Bawal automotive ancillary wants long-range UHF for the contractor-truck entry plus 125 kHz EM for staff at the personnel door — the trucks coming in carry windshield UHF tags issued at the gatehouse on the day pass, the staff carry 125 kHz EM proximity cards on lanyards. The plant manager’s spec for the truck-entry boom is clear: 10-metre read range so the truck does not stop, Wiegand into the boom controller, RS485 into the plant management server for the supplier-arrival log. The personnel door uses a separate 125 kHz EM card reader. The eSSL U12-I is built for exactly this. A 10-metre long-range UHF RFID card reader sized for vehicle barriers, with both Wiegand and RS485 output so the plant gets the boom-control flow and the supplier-arrival logging in parallel.

Why integrators specify the eSSL U12-I

The eSSL U12-I is the long-range UHF RFID card reader integrators specify when the deployment is a vehicle barrier — automotive plant truck entries, contractor-vehicle gates, distribution-centre yards — and the access control architecture needs both Wiegand (for the boom barrier panel) and RS485 (for the plant management server). 10 m read range lets vehicles cross the barrier at speed; the "do not stop" rule is the bottom-line operational spec. LED and buzzer feedback at the unit head confirms tag reads to the gatehouse operator. Tamper detection flags forced-removal events at the access control system. The U12-I is built for outdoor industrial mounting on a gate post or boom-barrier housing.

RFID technology & read range

The eSSL U12-I operates on 860-960 MHz UHF (RAIN RFID) with a read range of up to 10 metres in clear-air gate conditions. UHF passive tags on truck windshields authenticate well before the truck reaches the boom stop line, so the boom opens in time and the truck does not have to brake. The 10-metre range is consistent for windshield-mounted tags with correct orientation; container tags, asset tags and hard tags also read at similar distance. The U12-I card reader passes the EPC to the access control system for credential lookup and to the plant management server for supplier-arrival logging — both happen on the same reader read.

How it integrates with your access controller

The eSSL U12-I RFID reader outputs Wiegand and RS485 in parallel. Wiegand goes to the boom-barrier access controller — eSSL, BioMax or third-party — which validates the credential and drives the boom motor. RS485 goes to the plant management server, which logs the arrival, looks up the supplier record, and populates the receiving-dock dashboard. The dual-output design means the plant does not have to choose between operational boom control and management visibility. The 4-core (or thicker) reader cable carries 12V DC power, ground and the data lines from the gate-house power supply to the U12-I head.

Daily operation

The eSSL U12-I mounts on a gate post, boom-barrier canopy or wall above the truck lane with line-of-sight to the approaching vehicle. Power is 12V DC over the standard reader cable. LED and buzzer feedback at the unit head confirm tag reads to the gatehouse operator. The access controller drives the boom motor. For a contractor-truck-entry deployment the U12-I sits in a weather-tolerant outdoor mount and runs unattended; the gatehouse operator only intervenes for exceptions (unknown vehicle, expired tag, missing tag). The plant management server logs every arrival for audit and for the receiving-dock dashboard.

What integrators usually ask before ordering

Will it work with our existing access controller?
Yes — Wiegand output plugs into any standard access controller; RS485 feeds the plant management server in parallel for arrival logging.

What’s the read range, and does it work through wallets/lanyards?
Up to 10 metres for UHF passive tags. UHF is for vehicle, container and asset tags — not human card-tap.

Can it read multiple card types (EM + Mifare)?
No — the U12-I is a UHF-only RFID card reader. For the personnel door 125 kHz EM, pair the U12-I with a separate eSSL JS-32E or KR500-E at that door.

Is it IP-rated for outdoor mounting?
The U12-I is built for outdoor industrial gate mounting. Confirm exact IP rating and any weather-hood guidance at site survey.

Does it support encrypted cards?
UHF passive tags use plain EPC reading by default; the access control system enforces credential policy.
