Description

A Mumbai shared office building owner has 8 tenants and needs cheap RFID readers for the 8 separate suite doors — every tenant gets their own access control panel, every panel needs a card reader at the corridor side of the door, and the owner is funding the hardware as part of the lease build-out. Eight readers at boutique prices wreck the budget; eight readers at workhorse prices keep the project commercially viable. The readers need to be compatible with the standalone controllers each tenant picks (C3-100, C3-200, C3-400 are the common shortlist for small-tenancy access control) and they need to read the standard 125 kHz EM card stock every Mumbai card vendor carries. The eSSL JS-500E is built for exactly this. A budget 125 kHz EM RFID card reader with Wiegand 26/34 output and explicit C3-controller compatibility — eight units at sensible cost, eight identical SKUs for the building’s spares cupboard.

Why integrators specify the eSSL JS-500E

The eSSL JS-500E is the RFID card reader integrators specify when the deployment is cost-sensitive and the controllers on the project are the eSSL C3-100, C3-200 or C3-400 series (or any other Wiegand-input access controller). The JS-500E is explicitly tuned for that controller family — same brand, same Wiegand profile, same support ecosystem. 125 kHz EM keeps the per-card cost low when every tenant orders a fresh batch of 50 employee cards, and Wiegand 26/34 output keeps the wiring standard at every suite door. LED and buzzer feedback confirm the card read; tamper detection raises an alarm if the reader is forced from the wall. The card reader is small, light, and ships with the standard 4-core cable pigtail.

RFID technology & read range

The eSSL JS-500E operates on 125 kHz EM frequency with a read range of 5-10 cm — the standard tap-and-go distance for door access control. EM 125 kHz cards are the cheapest RFID credential stock in the Indian market, with every distributor carrying EM4100 / TK4100 blanks at commodity prices. The 5-10 cm read range is short enough that a passing cardholder does not accidentally trigger a read; long enough that staff can present the card through a thin lanyard sleeve. The eSSL JS-500E card reader passes the card number to the access controller, which validates it against the credential database and drives the door strike accordingly.

How it integrates with your access controller

The eSSL JS-500E RFID reader outputs Wiegand 26/34, the universal access controller reader protocol. It plugs directly into the eSSL C3-100, C3-200 and C3-400 access controllers (the access control standard for small and mid-size single-building deployments) as well as BioMax, ZKTeco and third-party Wiegand panels. A standard 4-core reader cable carries 12V DC power, ground and the two Wiegand data lines from the controller to the card reader. The card reader has no IP, no software install, no firmware push — the access control system holds the credentials and the JS-500E is the head-end sensor that converts a card tap into a Wiegand stream.

Daily operation

The eSSL JS-500E mounts beside the door frame in a compact wall-mount footprint suitable for suite-door installation. Power is 12V DC, drawn from the access controller’s reader power supply over the standard reader cable. LED indicates successful or denied reads; the buzzer gives an audible cue. Tamper alarm wires back to the controller’s input so the building security team sees a forced-removal event. For an eight-suite deployment, the building owner can hold one or two spare JS-500E units in the facilities cupboard — at this price point that is realistic, and the access control system continues running while a faulty head is swapped.

What integrators usually ask before ordering

Will it work with our existing access controller?
Yes — Wiegand 26/34 is the universal access control reader protocol. The eSSL JS-500E is explicitly compatible with the eSSL C3 series and works with any other Wiegand controller.

What’s the read range, and does it work through wallets/lanyards?
Read range is 5-10 cm. Thin lanyard sleeves and slim wallets pass through; thick wallets with RFID-blocking liners need the card pulled out.

Can it read multiple card types (EM + Mifare)?
No — the JS-500E is 125 kHz EM only. For dual-frequency, use the eSSL SA40.

Is it IP-rated for outdoor mounting?
The JS-500E is rated for indoor corridor mounting. For outdoor or semi-exposed locations, choose the eSSL KR500-E (IP65).

Does it support encrypted cards?
EM 125 kHz does not implement card-side encryption. For encrypted Mifare credentials, choose the eSSL JS-500M or KR503-M.
